Bin Li's design for the Hunan TV 2020-2021 New Year's Eve concert stage is a marvel of creativity and engineering, drawing inspiration from the iconic spinning top in the film "Inception." This "giant spinning top" serves as the core image of the stage, symbolizing the fleeting nature of time and the pursuit of dreams. The design's unique properties lie in its multifunctional stages, each meticulously crafted to offer a distinct visual experience, aligning with the celebratory spirit of New Year's Eve.
The central stage, known as the "gyroscope apparatus," is a technical masterpiece with a diameter of 30 meters and a height of 25 meters. It features a hydraulic system and CNC hoists that allow for dynamic movement and actor interaction, creating a sense of wonder and excitement. The surrounding stages, each with their own thematic elements, complement the central spectacle, from the "Vigilant Stage" with its interactive visuals to the "Starry Stage" designed for high-energy band performances.
Realized through advanced technology, the stage design incorporates hydraulic lifts, CNC-controlled water curtains, and a complex lighting system to support the performances. The "Dream-chasing Stage" stands out with its modular elements over water, offering flexibility and enhancing the overall effect. The entire setup is a testament to the collaborative efforts of the Funshine Culture Group and its team, including Desheng An, Dongshan Peng, Yan Li, Xue Han, Yue Gao, and Yi Sha.
Technical specifications reveal the stage's division into seven zones, with the central stage as the focal point. The design integrates a curved LED screen, scenic elements, and lighting fixtures to create a rich background effect. The "levitating" gyroscope structure, supported by a central steel column, is a visual highlight, while the other stages feature dynamic elements like "flying saucer" structures and light walls that enhance the depth perception of the stage.
Keywords such as "Hunan TV New Year's Eve Concert" and "Stage Design" encapsulate the project's essence. The design process, spanning from August 2020 in Beijing to its culmination on December 31st in Hainan, involved extensive research and technical challenges. The team overcame these obstacles, particularly with the gyroscope apparatus, to create a stage that not only functions for performances but also stands as a work of art.
Recognition for this innovative stage design came in the form of a Silver A' Design Award, a testament to its creative excellence and technical prowess. The award highlights the design's ability to evoke amazement and wonder, solidifying its status as a remarkable achievement in the realms of performing arts, stage, style, and scenery design.
